Talking to a wildlife rehabilitator, we were told young Raccoons are as dumb as doggie doo-doo. They have to be taught how to find food; baby Squirrels, on the other hand, seem to have all the natural survival instincts built into their DNA.
Plus, Squirrels can talk, whereas Raccoons cannot.
