Previously I wrote about the BC Lottery Corp’s security breach which resulted in its online gambling site being shut down. As of this posting, the site is still not back up. We told you in that article why we think you should avoid online gambling.
But this same provincial gambling body is now in trouble with the feds for problems at their casinos:
The B.C. Lottery Corp. is the only provincial gambling commission to be fined for failing to report suspicious or large transactions at casinos, an official with the federal regulator said Wednesday.
Blaine Harvey, of the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (Fintrac), would not comment on the $670,000 in penalties imposed on BCLC for more than 1,000 violations under the federal Proceeds of Crime Act.
But Harvey did confirm that Fintrac has not penalized any other gambling commission.
The article goes on to say that irregularities have been found at casinos across Canada, so perhaps they’re starting to crack down by making an example of the BC Lottery Corp.
The gang at Lottery Squirrel says forget casinos! It sounds like many of the problems are linked to “organized crime activities,” so avoid such places. Stick to lottery tickets and especially support the charitable lotteries. But remember our Golden Rule: Gamble only what you can afford to lose!
