Artist Kenneth McGregor from Kent Ohio, and owner of the Art Armory, has been a big supporter of our Campaign to Adopt the Black Squirrel as London Ontario’s Mascot. He’s pictured below giving the two thumbs up signal of support.
An interesting story that Mr McGregor told me was that the residents of Kent OH rely on their Black Squirrels to predict the upcoming weather, much the way people rely on the Farmer’s Almanac. If they see the squirrels working hard to gather nuts in the fall, then they know to expect a cold, snowy winter. If, on the other hand, the squirrels don’t put much effort into nut gathering, then the residents know to expect a milder winter. So far, they claim a perfect success rate!
