Ground Squirrel Day with Vicky and Albert; squirrel lovers claim they are more reliable than groundhog day predictors Wiarton Willie or Punxsutawney Phil.

On Monday February 1, 2010 at 10 AM,Vicky, one of 2 official Victoria-park.com mascots, was the first to pop out of a hole in one of the many park trees on Ground Squirrel Day.

As part of the offical rules for Ground Squirrel Day, Vicky had to run across the ground for 60 seconds to see if she sees her shadow. This year the ground was covered with snow and outside temperatures were about -15C with wind chill factor.

Albert, the mate of Vicky, was next to do the 60-second jaunt in the park. Albert, too, saw his shadow and stopped to show the crowds of people his BIG shadow to confirm we will have 6 more weeks of winter. Due to local cutbacks the local TV station was unable to attend, so you have read it here. The local TV matters campaign should pick up this story.
Vicky posed for the cameras and let the crowd know we have 6 more weeks of winter to endure. From now until spring, the Black Squirrels of Victoria Park are SUPER thankful for people coming out to say hello and offering a meal – PEANUTS.
