This posting is actually a story about RE-gifting. My number one gift for Chiristmas 2008 was a GPS unit for my Nikon D90 (Nikon GP-1 GPS). On Christmas day I opened a card with a picture of the unit only, because the real thing was on back order. Long into January, I got the call it had arrived at the camera store. I wasted no time in getting there and coming home. I waited a few hours for it to acclimatize because of the cold temperatures here in the Great White North.
After a few hours passed, I connected it to my camera and, after spending hours trying to get it to work, decided it was faulty. Back to the camera store and they shipped it away and ordered a new one. Weeks later the camera store called, and off I went to the store with my camera in hand.
I told the clerk I wanted to see the GPS working before I left the store. I had no LUCK with unit #2. I had the store clerk try it on another Nikon D90 in their showcase. This POS (GPS) made by NIKON did not work on their camera either. After telling the clerk we were 2 for 2 on NIKON GPS units not working, I decided to get a refund and look at something else.
The wife said I could use the money for whatever I wanted. Having wasted enough time with Nikon products, I thought I would hold off looking for anything.
Later in the spring we had a chance to save a Bur Oak tree from being cut down, as it was growing under hydro lines. That’s when I had the idea of re-gifting the funds from my Christmas gift to help save an Oak Tree that would produce acorns for squirrels for many years to come.

It was a lot of work but we saved the tree in the center shown above.
The Lucky Coin® / Lucky Squirrel Scratcher® – use the coin as a scratch device to remove protective coatings off lottery tickets or coupons. This lucky coin is an ideal gift to include with scratch lottery tickets in birthday cards. Carry the coin safely in your pocket, wallet, or purse as an item of luck. Use the coin for coin tosses. Sew the coin into sports gear or garments. You can even drill a small hole in the coin to attach to a key chain or hang on a Christmas tree.
The black squirrel featured in the first photo of this posting is now a regular in the Money Tree. My wife was happy about the tree and did not mind me re-gifting to a bunch of squirrels. This year she said NO re-gifting (what would squirrels do with a RED Ferrari California anyways). On Christmas day 2009 we expect to see our regular 3 black squirrels – Lucky, Midnight and Forest and a few Blue Jays out front in my re-gifted present from Christmas 2008. Seeing the gang on Christmas day in the MONEY TREE or on the Squirrel Observation Deck will make my day.
The squirrels and the Blue jays enjoyed the acorns for a few weeks while they lasted. We were able to save a few for keepsakes. If you get something you do not like this year for Christmas, see if you can return it and use the proceeds to maybe treat some of Mother Nature’s creatures. Reading this posting we know you will think of squirrels first – LOL. If you want to help feed our squirrels and birds here, we welcome any donation.
